We’re the host with the most

The Association for European Dairy Industry (AEDIL) chose to hold their annual European board meeting at our Food Innovation Centre to discuss educational innovations and opportunities.

Thirteen delegates, representing European-wide dairy training schools, enjoyed a tour of the facilities and local Nantwich. Vice Principal Dave Kynaston said: “It was an honour to host the group and an ideal opportunity to strengthen our international links with the association.”

The cream of the crop

All 23 Project Eden trainee dairy technologists were in line for special honours after completing the first year of their Foundation Degree in Dairy Technology.

While Stephen Woods of Dairy Crest was selected as Best Academic Student and Chris Walden of Cotteswold was named best Practical Student, the group refused to be divided when it came to choosing the Dairy Culture Student of the Year, so they were all winners! Course Manager Marion Pusey commented: “This reflects how well the students have bonded as a group.”

Award-winning Cheese

Our mature Cheshire cheese made by dairy technology students at Reaseheath College in Nantwich took a top prize at the Cheshire show.

The 20kg block of cheese, made from local milk, took the Gold award above entries from some of the UK’s top cheesemakers. Naboth Tinarwo, Interim Lean Systems Manager at the Food Innovation Centre, collected the Cheshire Agricultural Society Perpetual Challenge Trophy on behalf of the students. He said: “We were delighted. This was a great achievement, particularly as the win was against strong competition from leading commercial manufacturers.”
