College team up with food giant

Reaseheath College’s Food Centre has become part of a new collaboration aimed at improving the transfer of knowledge between companies and research centres.

The partnership, between Reaseheath, the University of Chester and Leatherhead Food Research, will offer a ‘one stop shop’ for small, medium and large businesses within the food and drink industry.

By combining their skills, the three partners aim to offer a comprehensive service which includes the latest research and development, access to new processing technologies and bespoke training.

Agriculture Minister visit

We were delighted to host a ministerial visit from the Minister for Agriculture within the food centre.

The minister spent an hour with the team, looking at the various practical sessions taking place and was very interested to learn of our close links with industry, and plans for the future with regards to expansion of the bakery facility and our work with industry to look at progressing a dairy engineering programme.

The minister was most impressed with the diversity of operations within food, and the commercial scale.

Dishes impress at M&S

Final year Foundation Degree in Food Industry with Management students were tasked with creating premium deli products which would tempt the typical M&S customer.

The students had to follow a complex brief following strict retail industry standards and then deliver a product presentation before a ‘dragon’s den’ of food experts. The judging panel was led by M&S product developer Barbara Ross, who is responsible for the retailer’s popular ‘Taste Italian’ range and is involved with launching new M&S deli counters.
